ITALY-SARDINE-DEMO-POLITICS
Add to Cart Add to LightboxA placard reading "Slegati per la vita" (Untied for life) is seen during a flash mob made by "Sardine" (Sardines) at San Giovanni square in Rome on December 14, 2019. The first "Sardine" flash mob was made on November 14, 2019 when more than 12,000 people filled Piazza Maggiore in Bologna, in opposition of the Italy's far-right League (Lega) party event where the leader Matteo Salvini came to support the candidacy for President of the Emilia-Romagna region of Lucia Borgonzoni at PalaDozza sporting arena in Bologna and to express their opposition to hatred, indifference and policies based on exclusion. The name "Sardine", more precisely "6000 Sardine" because 6,000 is the capacity of Piazza Maggiore in Bologna, was born from the request of the organisers of the flash mob to fill the square standing close like sardines in a jar.
